What’s “L’umarell” in Italy?

In Italy, there is a very curious and amusing phenomenon: the Umarell. These are retired people who love to go to open construction sites to observe and comment on the work in progress. With great passion and interest, these gentlemen stop to watch the workers and do not hesitate to offer advice and opinions on how the job should be done. The Umarell are known for their curiosity and their desire to participate in community life. Often, their presence is accompanied by funny anecdotes and stories, such as when they explain to workers how to build a house or fix a roof.

I discussed this fascinating topic in my Italian for Fun group lessons, where we explore the quirks and charms of the Italian language and culture! 😊

Have you ever spotted an Umarell observing a construction site in Italy?
