Why is it important to have a good pronunciation in Italian opera?

Nowadays, it is essential for a singer when they sing in Italian to have an excellent pronunciation. What every theater and every opera director expects from a singer is a good pronunciation. Indeed, the standard of linguistic skills among opera singers is currently very high. Furthermore, the audience is very demanding and they expect a clear pronunciation and diction. It’s really difficult to express the music and convey the message properly otherwise. This is because language and vocal techniques are linked and therefore having a good pronunciation has a great impact on vocal ability.
